A PUB is offering free meals to punters who can prove that they weigh over 25 STONE.
The George Pub & Grill, in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, advertised the deal on its Facebook page, claiming the best eaters should be “rewarded and not judged”.
If you measure up, the pub is offering up to FIVE free meals per visit – though diners have to get back on the scales every time.
The offer went live on the pub’s Facebook page yesterday, and owner Craig Harker, 30, said the phone hasn’t stopped ringing since.
He explained: “We’re a food challenge pub, so everyone comes in for food challenges.
“We wanted to reward the bigger eaters. If you’re over 25 stone, step on the scales – we have some scales at the side of the bar – prove it, and you can get a meal for free.
“We’re just waiting for people to come down and do it now.”
Meals include parmo and chips (a breaded butterfly chicken breast covered in cheese and bacon) and a 6oz gourmet burger and chips.
Craig told how they’ve had a lot of interest from rugby players – particularly scrum halves – and fighters.
The offer has received a mixed reaction from people on Facebook, with some accusing the pub of promoting obesity.
One wrote: “This is absolutely ridiculous, how is this allowed? Seriously think about what you’re encouraging.”
But Craig pointed out: “We’re not Slimming World at the end of the day.
“If you want to lose weight, get yourself there – but if you want to come and enjoy a massive meal, pile on the pounds, then get yourself down to the George.
“Everyone’s a grown adult, they’ve got a choice to make.”
The George Pub & Grill holds the record for the UK’s biggest steak – a 220oz beast which is heavier than a newborn child – and the UK’s largest mixed grill.
Last year the pub offered a free trip to A&E – and a possible trip to the cemetery – for diners who took on their 8,000 calorie parmo kebab sandwich.
The George is hosting a British Eating League chicken nugget challenge on August 8.
Craig explained: “Those taking part will see how many chicken nuggets they can eat in 10 minutes.
“There’s a £140 cash prize for the winner! No one else in England gives cash prizes, it’s all in America.
“We’re always busy and we get people from everywhere – I reckon it’s 40 per cent locals and the rest are from all over the UK.
“We advertise ourselves as the meatiest pub in the UK.
“I get messages on Facebook from people from Ireland asking where the nearest airport is!”
